Chicago Art Institute The Collection Here Is Amazing

The Chicago Art Institute was founded in 1879 as both a museum and school.The school’s graduate program is continually ranked as one of the best in the country.

It’s the second largest art museum in the United States, the first being the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

It has been such a life link to people for 130 years as it is a route to many artistic expressions from around the world.

The exhibitions and Art here is vast.

They not only have rare paintings, but different unique artistic creations from certain cultures throughout history.

These artwork expressions from different cultures and societies depict our creative human experiences.

 The collection is now made up of more than 5,000 years of human expression.

As you enter this place you will immediately appreciate the richness and variety of art diversity it has to offer.

Not only are there historical expressions, but modern art expressions also.

It has one of the largest and most extensive collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings in the world.

There’s always a new and interesting exhibition on view that widens your knowledge and view on art. This museum is an exciting place to be!

Some of the famous artist on display include Vincent Van Gogh, Gustave Caillebotte, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Claude Monet, and Paul Gauguin.

On May 16, 2009, a Modern Wing was opened. It was the largest expansion in the museum’s history.

The Modern Wing is home to the museum’s collection of early 20th-century European art from Pablo Picasso to Henri Matisse.

Museum Hours

Monday–Wednesday, 10:30–5:00 Thursday, 10:30–8:00 Friday–Sunday, 10:30–5:00

Free Family Wednesdays to Replace Free Thursday Evenings.

Starting June 1, the Art Institute is free to all on the first and second Wednesdays of every month.

The museum continues to be open Thursday evenings until 8:00 pm for regular admission.

The museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s days. Check schedule for gallery closures before your visit.
