Illinois State Parks – Close to Chicago

Have you ever been to one of Illinois state parks? If you haven’t you may want to give it a try.If you’re in Chicago or live outside of Chicago and are interested in planning a road trip, then you may want to consider coming to one of our Parks close to Chicago.

I’ve enjoyed many of these state parks since childhood and into adulthood with my family.

Visiting these areas is a yearly adventure. Plus we always get together with friends, and go fishing early in the morning, then have a barbecue in the summer.

These parks are not hard to get to, and are just a few hours away from Chicago. They’re a convenient way to get away from it all, and relax.

You can get away from the daily stresses for a while, while not having to spend a lot of money.

Also deciding to get outdoors and get a good workout on the trails, or just spending time in the outdoors can help usher in the tranquility that will help you feel rejuvenated.

Plus if you have kids they’ll love the outdoor activity. Planning for the trip can be fun for them also.

There are many areas you can drive to and spend a day if you’re planning a road trip for a day, or even a few days.

Enjoying the simpler things in life doesn’t cost too much. A road trip can help you save money if your considering an outing.

Packing up some lunch and drinks in your cooler to avoid having to spend any extra money, and having an impromtu picnic can be a good idea too.

Couples and kids always enjoy picnics! If you would like, some of the parks have areas where you can have a barbecue.

Starved Rock State Park is one of those parks that will give you plenty of enjoyment, and adventure.

Matthiessen State Park is very close to Starved Rock.

If you’re visiting Starved Rock then nearby Matthiessen State Park is worth a visit also.

This park is as natural as it comes. You won’t be disappointed if you’re looking to enjoy a natural setting.

So, not only being surrounded by nature is very relaxing.

But taking the kids, family or your partner on a fishing trip is something that is simple, yet fun and inexpensive.

Plus hiking or walking on trails in the forest will give you an added change of scenery.

Some paths in a state park are made of concrete where you can easily take your bike out and go for a great ride and enjoy the scenery.

If you want a few more days of nature you can go camping. If you’re not that brave you can stay in a hotel.

Some of our State parks even have log cabins that you can rent.

State Parks Safety Tips- Illinois:

    • Remember as with any adventure trip you plan to take be prepared for the outdoors, as they do have animals and creatures that live in nature.
    • Make sure you stay hydrated, wear sun protectant, and have some kind of repellent for the bugs.
    • Also be aware and cautious of the parks warning signs that may prohibit going to certain areas because of a danger of being unsafe.
    • When you’re hiking, climbing on rocks or walking, follow safety measures and take caution that you don’t slip and fall.
  • Be aware of how the weather can affect park trails,and safety.

If you don’t plan to stay the night in a nature park you can go out and get a delicious desert or ice cream of your choice.

What a great yet simple way to top off your day. Outdoor fun will not only rejuvenate you, but it’s physically good for your body and mind.
